Some new drawings for a humoristic book about occultism, ill will and strange creatures include this fellow:

Historians assume that elephant skulls could be at the origin of the cyclops legend. These skulls have a hole in the front, at the place of the trunk (elephant nose). Due to a lack of anatomy knowledge, this hole was maybe interpreted as cavity of the eye...

Gunmen Magazine

Arms and combat are part of human existance, from the hunters of the Stone Age to the highly equipped special forces of our days.
This zine explores the fascination and attraction of this very ambivalent theme, with its primitive, absurd and often disgusting manifestations.

This is a longtime project and it's maybe never gonna appear. It's such a destructive topic that repells me again and again.
Just too much bad karma

Frans Masereel Centrum

february 2010

......................................................................................................................

For some weeks I have the occasion to stay in the Belgian Frans Masereel Centrum near Antwerp.

They provide good facilities for silkscreen, letterpress, lithography and etching where I'm working. I didn't know anything about etching when I came here, and the first week I just struggled to learn the basics of aquaforte and aquatint. Etching really is a science and a world in itself. Now I already feel more comfortable, thanks to the instructors and my neighbour in the atelier, and I'm working on my first two images.

It's surprisingly international artists in residence here, there's people from New Zealand, Paris, London, Romania and Belgium at the moment. Each artist has his own bungalow, and there's 3 extra beds for guests. Maybe next year, this could be interesting for some of us to come together?

Best regards from Kasterlee!

Zine Soup

TTC Gallery from Denmark have published a large collection of zines from around the world.

It has a focus on the - let's say - insane side of zines, lots of deviant energy, but also playful ideas. Part of the collection are my Encyclopedia and Varanasi books.

Single Cover Album

Book Release: A SINGLE COVER ALBUM

Freshly out is our first hardcover-book (84 pages printed in deepest black and white!). At the invitation of Poste Aérienne, 23 illustrators, graphic designers and book artists created astonishing new designs of their favourite vinyl single covers.

“45 - A Single Cover Album” not only reveals a cross-section of the currently booming young illustrator scene, it’s also a design homage to the 7“ record.

From early fifties recordings of Nina Simone, over the psychedelic years with The Beatles and Captain Beefheart to some seventies stuff like David Bowie and Black Sabbath, to New Wave with Joy Division and Gary Numan until current independent acts like Bonnie „Prince“ Billy or Weilheim‘s The Notwist (to mention but a few).
